There are some really, really, really, simple easy tricks that everyone should know that can instantly trick people into thinking you’re good at cooking elevate any dish with minimal effort.
One such trick is to make something that I like to call “crispy crack.”
Why?
Because there isn’t a human being on earth that doesn’t like crispy, garlicky goodness added to every meal they consume. And alliteration.
Three ingredients. That’s it.
Make it beforehand and sprinkle it on your next meal while making direct eye contact with your dinner guests. It will give you all the confidence of crack knowing that you’re adding the greatest crutch to yumminess in cooking history.
Crispy Crack
Make this in a couple minutes and throw it on anything — pastas, salads, popcorn, fried rice, noodles, anything you want. Up here you can see I threw it on some simple aglio e olio.
Ingredients
~1 cup of panko breadcrumbs
~3-4 cloves of garlic, minced
~1 tbsp. olive oil
A pinch of salt
Optional:
Some lemon zest
A handful of chopped parsley
Directions
1 — Heat up your oil in a pan to around medium heat. Throw your garlic in and move it around for less than a minute.
Low and slow. No burning.
2 — Throw in your cup of panko and salt and stir in well. Keep it moving and heat it up to a nice, golden brown.
If it looks dry, add some more olive oil.
The thing about cooking up panko is that it will look like nothings happening for a few minutes, then SUDDENLY it cooks really quickly. So beware of burning it. Don’t go into the other room, keep watching it carefully to achieve that golden brown, then take it off heat.
3 — If you have parsley or lemon zest, you can add it in a bit closer to the end for some freshness.
THAT’S IT. I threw this on a pasta for a dinner party this past weekend and people were going crazy about how next level it makes the dish. You can easily make a batch and save it in some Tupperware.
I will not lie, I don’t need “things” to put this on, I’ll go straight at it with a spoon.
Only God can judge me.
