Watching a grandmother cook is a humbling experience. My former mother-in-law's knife skills would make any proper chef cringe but the results of whatever she cut were magnificent! Her pasta sauce began with slicing an onion between her thumb and forefinger, straight into the pan, kind of like cutting an apple straight from the tree and snacking on it.

No matter how hard I tried, I could never get my sauce to taste like hers ... and I even tried replicating every step, including the thumb and forefinger-style onion slicing.

P.S. Nope. I won't buy that a BLT is all about the tomato lol. If I ever get to a place some day where tomatoes taste like they should, I might come back here and redact.
